Hello World

Finally, after sitting on this domain for 2 years and a working WordPress install for 1 year, I have decided it is time to begin actually posting stuff.

Why now? Because I am currently unemployed and don’t have anything better to do with my time. Well, that’s not entirely true. I should be looking for work and working on code. But these things are not mutually exclusive. If I work on code and then post here about it, then when I do speak to potential employers, I have something to talk to them about. It’s a lot easier to say “Oh yes, I am very passionate about programming and video games,” and then follow that up with, “Here, you can look at my blog and some of my projects,” than to just end the comment with no sort of portfolio to back it up. In fact, I’ve come to believe that not having a portfolio is taken as the contrary. How can you be passionate about something and have nothing to show for it?

So this blog will be my way of building a portfolio and expanding my knowledge base. In a perfect world, I will eventually start working on actually game development and perhaps even make something to sell to support myself. Being more of a pragmatist, however, I suspect that I will use it more as a stepping stone to finally get a job working as a programmer or software engineer.

My goal is to be fairly regular in my posting habits. For now, I intend to aim for 2 posts per week. As this is going up on a Friday, I will likely aim to post something on Tuesdays and Fridays every week.

Next Tuesday, June 21, 2016, I will post an introduction to my current project, a very simple terrain rendering program. I’m using it as a way to introduce myself to a couple different technologies I haven’t used before.

I’ll let you know exactly what I intend to accomplish with the project next week.

Until then,
Traagen
